The hip joint, sometimes called the thigh hinge, is a deep-seated ball and socket joint between the acetabulum (a part of the pelvis) and the femoral head (the top of the thigh bone). It is a true universal joint allowing the lower limb to bend, move sideways and turn independently of the trunk. Any compromise results in loss of agility.
